A museum is not built with bricks alone. It is built with conviction and craftsmanship. With courage and love. And with people who dare to think, create, chop, change and start afresh. More than 300 people worked together on the new Valkhof Museum. In Making a museum you see and feel how this took shape step by step.

After years of renovation, the Valkhof Museum is open again, so you can once more immerse yourself in art and history. Over 300 people worked together to achieve this. On the building site and behind the scenes. Outside and inside. With major interventions and minor details. From initial draft to final display case. Walls came down, exhibitions were designed and texts written.

Everything demanded new choices. Not just about the building and its interior, but also about what the museum stands for. Who do we want to be as a museum? What stories do we tell? What connections do we want to bring to light? This is how a building takes shape. How it heads in a new direction. The Valkhof Museum’s new direction.
