Woodbury House is proud to announce that Los Angeles: a visual lineage is now open to the public at our flagship Mayfair gallery, on view from 27 February until 24 April 2026. The exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to explore a body of work deeply connected to the cultural and visual landscape of Los Angeles, bringing together artists whose practices have shaped and redefined the city’s artistic identity over time.
Bringing together Chaz Bojórquez, Defer, Estevan Oriol and Retna, the exhibition traces more than five decades of artistic development rooted in Los Angeles. Each artist represents a distinct moment within the city’s creative history, reflecting different generations, influences, and social contexts while remaining connected through a shared visual environment. Presented together in London for the first time, their works reveal how artistic voices emerging from the streets and communities of Los Angeles have gained international resonance.
Rather than focusing solely on stylistic similarities, the exhibition examines the idea of lineage — how a visual language is formed, transmitted, and continuously transformed across generations. Through this dialogue between artists, Los Angeles: a visual lineage highlights the ways in which symbols, gestures, and cultural references circulate within the city’s artistic ecosystem, evolving over time while maintaining a strong sense of place and identity.
