“Mattress Factory has always been about process, experimentation, and giving artists the freedom to create work on their own terms,” said David Oresick, Mattress Factory Executive Director. “With Limited, we’re revisiting that legacy—this time through editions that honor the installations long after they’re gone.”
Limited is an exhibition that celebrates the museum’s long history of boundary-pushing art through a curated selection of limited-edition prints and objects created by Mattress Factory artists since 1986. Limited offers visitors a rare opportunity to own a piece of the museum’s iconic history while supporting its bright future.
Since its founding in 1977, the Mattress Factory has championed site-specific art, often temporary in nature. Limited captures these fleeting moments, transforming them into lasting, collectible editions.
The show features works by celebrated artists such as William Anastasi, Deborah Aschheim, Dove Bradshaw, and Jessica Stockholder, alongside new editions by recent artists-in-residence Asim Waqif, Katie Bullock, and Luke Stettner. Their 2023 prints, part of a revived Limited Edition Print Program, are offered in editions of 77—a nod to the year of the museum’s founding.
From blindfolded graphite drawings and sound-reactive sculptures to digitally collaged meditations on memory, each piece in Limited is an intimate snapshot of the ideas and processes that have defined the Mattress Factory for nearly five decades.
“Buying a print from this show isn’t just buying art,” added Oresick. “It’s a way to support our artist residency program and keep this community-centered, experimental space thriving into our 50th year and beyond.”
