Kate Oh Gallery is honored to present The resonance of breath, a solo exhibition by artist Jin Ok Ye, whose sculptural ceramic vessels explore the subtle transformations of breath, light, and materiality.

The resonance of breath unveils a captivating suite of ceramic works that showcase the artist’s extraordinary mastery over form and substance. Spanning a diverse range of shapes and scales from intimate pouring vessels to monumental containers each piece reveals a striking spectrum of textures and finishes. Pearlescent glazes flow like molten gold, cascading over rims and gliding down necks. Other vessels, coated in bronze or soft blue gray patinas, rise into sculpted ovular crests, while charcoal-black forms glimmer with intricate gilded motifs: crowned wings, lustrous pearls, and delicate flora and fauna.

Every vessel is executed with exceptional precision. Smooth finishes and sensuous contours invite a tactile gaze, while the artist’s calibrated sense of weight and volume evokes the gentle swelling of bodies or living organisms. Some silhouettes recall the fluid abstraction of Brancusi, confidently merging biomorphic form and sculptural restraint. Additional works are adorned with iridescent mosaics that catch and disperse light in dynamic refractions, heightening their optical allure.

Equally crucial is Jin Ok Ye’s refined chromatic sensibility. Vessels recalling the soft olive-green of Goryeo celadon stand alongside those bathed in ethereal whites, shifting like moonlight into deep nightfall. Through her careful modulation of color and luminosity, the artist demonstrates an acute sensitivity to the elemental nature of ceramics structure, surface, and light in concert.

The resonance of breath reveals vessels not merely as functional containers, but as living forms quietly expanding, shimmering, and breathing within their own sculptural presence.
