Galleri Bo Bjerggaard is pleased to present Elements, an exhibition by the Danish artist Erik Steffensen, featuring a series of new works. Elements is Steffensen’s eighth exhibition at Galleri Bo Bjerggaard.

Water, mountains, ice, mist and the presence of weather fill the landscapes in Erik Steffensen’s new exhibition, Elements, at Galleri Bo Bjerggaard, Frederiksberg. Seeking out both dramatic and contemplative natural scenery, the artist strives to give beauty a place in a world threatened by catastrophic changes and challenges. Steffensen says,

“In March 2025, I travelled through Iceland, photographing some of the classic sites that have been most important to my art and my conception of landscape as revelation. Back in my studio, in Copenhagen’s Nordvest neighborhood, I reworked the photographs with oil paint as an additional contact between subject and human. The result is a series of unique works entitled Elements.

“Since my first trip to Iceland, as an art student in September 1990, landscape has been a persistent source of inspiration. The weather, vastness and beauty of Iceland led me to return from that trip with hundreds of photographic negatives, from which I made eleven black-and-white prints entitled Healing. In 2025, for Elements, I moreover decided to go back to the darkroom with a handful of those negatives and then rework the black-and-white prints with oil.

“To me, the works express how the Icelandic landscape remains timeless in its enigmatic beauty.”
