Salma Dliya has always believed that a good story can change the way we see the world. For her, writing is not just a job; it is a way to connect people, explain complex ideas, and help businesses grow. Based in Indonesia, Salma has spent years learning how to combine the art of storytelling with the practical world of business and digital marketing.
Salma’s journey began a long time ago, when she was just a young girl. While other children might have been busy with different toys, Salma found her joy in books and pens. She spent her childhood writing poems and short fictional stories, letting her imagination run wild. These early years were very important because they taught her the most basic rule of communication: if you want people to listen, you have to tell a story that touches their hearts.
As she grew older and entered university, her writing style began to change. She moved away from fiction and started focusing on more "serious" writing, such as essays, articles, and scientific papers. However, she never lost that creative spark she had as a child. Even when writing about business, she always tried to make her words clear and interesting to read. In 2021, Salma graduated with a Bachelor of Economics (B.Ec.) in business management from Tazkia University. This degree gave her a strong foundation in how companies work. But instead of becoming a traditional banker or manager, she chose to follow her passion for writing. She combined her knowledge of business with her love for words and started her career as an SEO content writer at Trigonal Software.
At Trigonal, Salma’s job was to write articles that were easy to find on Google. She wrote mostly about "Point of Sale" (POS) software—the digital systems that stores and restaurants use to record sales and manage their money. While this might sound like a dry or boring topic to some, Salma saw it as a challenge. She had to explain complicated POS software in a way that a small store owner could easily understand.
During her time there, Salma did more than just write. She also worked in social media, accounting, and sales. These different roles were like a "real-world classroom" for her. She learnt how to talk to customers, how to manage a brand's online image, and how the financial side of a business actually operates. This experience made her a much better writer because she truly understood the problems that business owners face every day.
After working for a few years, Salma felt she wanted to learn more. In 2024, she decided to take a Master of Arts in Communication (M.A.) at the LSPR Institute of Communication and Business, which she completed in 2025. Her time at LSPR was a period of deep thinking and research. She wanted to find a way to help companies like Trigonal Software connect better with their audience on platforms like YouTube.
Her master's thesis project discusses how to overcome the low popularity of the Trigonal Software YouTube channel. The creative strategy is based on the implementation of three communication concepts. First, she used the "7 Steps of Digital Storytelling" concept by Joe Lambert. Second, she looked at the product placement concept by Cristel Russell. It has three dimensions, namely screen placement (visual appearance), script placement (auditory presence) and plot placement (degree of connection to the plot), which is called 'tripartite typology'. Finally, she used the "Narrative Transportation Theory" by Melanie Green and Timothy Brock. This theory explains that "feeling lost" in a story is a good thing; when people are entertained by a story, they are more likely to trust the message behind it.
While she was studying for her master's, she wrote a research paper that was published in the Widya Komunika Journal by the Communication Science Department of Jenderal Soedirman University. The paper is entitled “Implementasi Integrated Marketing Communication Communication (IMC) pada pemasaran Software Point of Sales (POS) untuk Bisnis UMKM Indonesia”. The IMC strategy consists of eight main communication models, namely advertising, sales promotions, events & experiences, public relations, online marketing & social media, mobile marketing, direct marketing, and personal selling. Salma showed how small businesses can use this strategy to compete with much bigger companies. She believes that with the right communication, even the small company can reach customers all over the country.
When she is not writing or studying business strategies, Salma is someone who values a balanced life. She is a big believer in self-improvement and loves reading books that help her grow as a person. Some of her favourites include Grit by Angela Duckworth, which talks about the power of not giving up; Atomic Habits by James Clear, which shows how small daily changes lead to big results; and The 80/20 Principle by Richard Koch, which teaches us to focus on the things that matter most.
In her free time, she enjoys being active. You might find her swimming, jogging, or working out at the gym. She also loves watching movies and editing videos, which allows her to keep practising her storytelling skills in a visual way.
