Lavlet Forde, MA. RP

Lavlet lives in Toronto and enjoys exploring the city and discovering its hidden gems. She has a unique name and appreciates being one of the few Lavlets and others who take joy in her namesake. At the same time, she accepts having her name mispronounced her entire life. Travel is one of her passions, and Lavlet has traveled to Italy, Portugal, Spain, the UK, France, South Korea, and throughout Canada and the US.

She is a registered psychotherapist, an enthusiastic wellness educator, and a writer. She has a passion for helping individuals, especially assisting them with finding their individual rhythm for their self-care and wellness. Always happy to share knowledge, she has taught on the subject of wellness and self-care for several years to community members and to college students studying the helping field.

As an adult third-culture kid, she understands the importance of creating spaces for all individuals. She frequently travels to her maternal motherland of Jamaica and her father’s beautiful homeland of Barbados whenever she has a chance and the desire to rejuvenate with warmth, Caribbean food, and family, and soak in the sun overlooking the beautiful ocean and lush green environment.

Through her travels, she has discovered the importance of our physical environment and culture and how these have a strong impact on an individual’s well-being. Lavlet loves to indulge in savouring a cappuccino in the morning when travelling in countries such as Italy, Spain, and Portugal and believes the best cup of coffee is Jamaican Blue Mountain – IYKYK.

Lavlet always enjoys writing and finds it to be a wonderful outlet to nourish her soul. She has fond memories of herself as a child writing and illustrating elaborate stories. She reconnected with her love of writing after graduate school since it became quite difficult for her to write for fun when writing and reading endless academic papers and clinical charts as a graduate student. She nevertheless encourages all those who are in school and/or those who live busy lives to create the space for writing, or any type of self-care practice, as it will nurture you!

She has a passion for learning and growing and has been dedicated to taking fun creative classes, as a result of having grown up in a sweet small town that she adored, but that didn’t have access to creative art classes. Over the years, she has taken several fashion styling courses - including an interactive fashion styling class in NYC, a make-up artistry class, as well as pottery and interior design classes.

A lover of pilates – both the reformer and mat varieties – she discovered this beautiful practice during graduate school, and it has been a faithful companion to her along her life journey. She recently discovered her love of weightlifting and appreciates both the challenge and joy of lifting. She delights in and embraces the many life lessons and discipline that lifting has taught her and she is very thankful to all those who have guided and helped her along her weightlifting journey. As a person who loves fashion, she is all about embracing gym fashion too!

On the weekend, you can typically find her in a Pilates class, at a café indulging in a book, writing, working on a creative project, biking, or exploring the city both indoors and outdoors – as nature is beautiful and healing, so she urges everyone to please take the time and go outside!

As a wellness enthusiast and therapist, Lavlet regularly facilitates workshops on the topic of self-care and wellness. She believes in providing a welcoming and safe space for clients and she practices from a person-centered, trauma-informed, and family systems model. She incorporates nature, the therapeutic arts, writing, and different reflective exercises into her practice, as she believes these practices are both powerful and healing, so it’s in everyone’s best interest to embrace them.

Lavlet recently completed her training in the therapeutic arts. She has been filled with joy to be able to offer therapeutic art workshops to clients and has found it amazing to see how individuals are better able to connect to themselves through painting, writing, coloring, mindfulness, and other activities.

She believes that life is a journey and at times the different “lessons” we learn along our journey can be a helpful guide to us, as these lessons can help to navigate us to where we should be going. A few tips she would recommend to assist you along your journey is to consider nurturing your well-being by spending time in nature, writing, doodling, painting, playing a musical instrument, etc. Practice an activity that helps you to move, process your thoughts, and connect with yourself. Your body, mind, and soul will be thankful as they need to be nurtured and cared for. With that in mind, she would like to wish everyone safe travels on their individual journey!
