Sara Korshøj Christensen will present in September is group of works who are a display of the present times. The main question is not specifically political, but about the set of grids of contemporary reality. It is not intended to provide answers or solutions, just to raise questions. The Artist is interested - among other things, in double meanings; the possibility of a work can have several reading lines and ideally create an open space for thinking and dialogue.
The works on view at It's true...I dream it myself! exhibition, focus on several current themes, but the most of them move around the present existentialism. The sculpture discipline will be expanded to other formats, materials, aesthetics and content.
The exhibition will be presented with a logical, direct vision and dialogue between the different materialities and themes. The use of elements such as deception, loss, power, magic and even fantasy, which are instruments that generate hope in the present and the future. Christensen's works calls for an attempt at reflection and reconciliation with the current trends.
Sara Korshøj Christensen works across different disciplines and with assorted techniques. Materials are often chosen based on the fact that the Artist sees an opportunity for them to be expanded into a new possibility of swapping meaning. Many of the works will have a humorous feel, with slightly unpleasant overtones. Humour has the potential of create a kind of space for thought and precisely for this reason, it is an integral part of Christensen's work using it as an experimental artistic tool. By shifting or changing familiar emblems, symbols, and jokes, new spaces of meaning and thoughtfulness are opened up.
The world seems to be filled with more nonsense than sense these days. Instead of zeroing in on a specific political issue, the exhibition is more about poking into the buzzing everyday reality. At first glance the sculptures might look like those flashy neon signs, logos, and company signage. But they're made of sturdy steel rods, bent by hand, welded, and varnished. They look all soft and light, but they don't glow like real neon signs. These sculptures, as well as the tufted wall hang carpets, are both tampering with and paying homage to art history and popular culture. Most of the works holds a humorous twist, with slightly unpleasant undertones. By playing around with familiar logos, symbols and puns, this is an honest attempt to open a wider space for thought and reflection.
“Sara Korshøj Christensen work exudes her joy of thinking deeply but sideways, her refusal to indulge in easy answers to the multiple pressing questions of our present time. Instead, it presents her playful mixed-media works and invites us to decipher the rigorously twisted meanings of quotidian images and political metaphors, and disturbing issues - such as domestic violence, ecologic crises, egomaniac ruthless leadership and our own consumerist self -indulgence. “
