Gallery Exit is pleased to present Shaping surface into light by Hilarie Hon, featuring her latest paintings from 2025. Part of her Sunlight murmur series, this body of work continues her exploration of the sea as a metaphor for her inner world. Growing up by the coast, Hon developed a deep connection to the ocean, inspired by its shifting light and rhythmic movements. Her seascapes reflect personal emotions and offer reflections on the passage of time, transcending traditional landscapes.

Following a personal experience last year, Hon returned to the ocean, finding renewed inspiration in its light and motion. This led to a series of calmer, more introspective works. Her recent paintings depict tranquil seas in vibrant yet soft tones, capturing the interplay of light and movement. Sunset scenes, with their blurred reflections and shifting hues, evoke fleeting beauty and quiet contemplation.

Light has always been central to Hon’s art. The Sunlight murmur series reflects her fascination with how light dances on the ocean’s surface, softening and blurring into an almost audible "murmur". In her works, light appears as radiant sources or gentle reflections, drawing viewers into a contemplative experience where familiar scenes become luminous and resonant.
