Barbara Müller (1956-2023), born in Aarau, developed a powerful abstract painting from her fascination with color. Her works were created in a slow, intensive process in which superimposed layers of paint and visible canvas surfaces formed exciting compositions. The artist poured the highly diluted oil paint onto the canvas, applied it with various aids and combined it with other colors.

Barbara Müller usually worked on several paintings at the same time, putting aside what she had started and sometimes taking longer than a year to complete. These are slowly created paintings that ultimately also require time when viewed. The paintings only unfold their full intensity and expression in the immediate encounter on site.

The Aargauer Kunsthaus is honoring her work with a Collection in focus exhibition that documents her multifaceted artistic development. In addition to works from her own collection, numerous loans from the artist’s family will also be on display.
