The exhibition Dynasty. Can we shape our destiny? broadly addresses questions of empowerment and the passage of knowledge, reflected in the assonance and contrast of the words ‘dynasty’ and ‘destiny’. While the former encapsulates multiple meanings from governance by birthright to cultural and spiritual lineage, the latter refers to the unknown and the unpredictable, embodying the subjective choice to preserve or to change repetition and continuity.
Featuring video, drawing, textile and mixed-media installations, Dynasty. Can we shape our destiny? brings together the works by four distinctive artists each offering a unique lens on the dynastic sharing of culture to speak of agency and disruption.
From reflecting on Southeast Asian colonial narratives, to exploring personal and family heritage, to drawing inspiration from Thai social culture and dynastic systems of governance.
