Fountain House Gallery – the premier venue in New York City representing artists living with mental illness – announces the third annual Compulsive genius: new work from Fountain House Studio resident artists. The exhibition will be on view at Fountain House Gallery, 702 Ninth Avenue in Manhattan, from May 8, 2025, through July 2, 2025. Curated by Fountain House Studio Director Karen Gormandy and by Fountain House Gallery Director Rachel Weisman, Compulsive Genius is presented by Broadridge Financial Solutions.
In a joint statement, Gormandy and Weisman said, “We're proud to announce the third annual Compulsive genius: new work from Fountain House Studio resident artists, showcasing the dedication, hard work, and brilliance of our artists in pieces reflecting a complexity of colors, textures, and patterns. We established this annual exhibition to celebrate works created during the residencies, and Compulsive Genius has fast become a highlight of our exhibition program.”
Each year, Fountain House Studio in Long Island City supports 15 to 25 artists through our residency program. For the residency, artists apply with a specific project or body of work in mind and are provided a dedicated workspace. During this time, artists are expected to spend a certain number of hours in the Studio, attend weekly critiques, and have regular consultations with Studio Director Karen Gormandy.
The 2025 Compulsive Genius artists are: Christine Albane, Guiomar Giraldo-Baron, Roger Jones, Suzette Lehrer, Maxx Reith, Angela Rogers, Tom Schneider, Susan Spangenberg, Bradford Scott Stringfield, Alyson Vega, Vermillion, and Boo Lynn Walsh. This program is funded, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council, and by generous support from the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund, the Lily Auchincloss Foundation, and the Renate, Hans and Maria Hofmann Trust.
