The newest exhibition in our Whānau Gallery, Déjà vu, presents delightfully unexpected pairings from the Dunedin Public Art Gallery’s collection, highlighting the unique vision and voice that artists bring to their subject.
These thought-provoking juxtapositions encourage viewers to reconsider how meaning is formed, how stories are told, and how artistic expression shifts across time and context. Together, the works remind us that there is more than one way to approach an object, image, or idea—and that each perspective offers something new and illuminating.
Spanning a range of mediums and artistic movements, Déjà vu includes works by Marie Shannon, Neil Dawson, Alexis Hunter, Steve Carr, Michael Parekōwhai, Ethel Spowers, Jae Hoon Lee and Mary Macpherson. Each artist brings their own conceptual language and visual vocabulary to the conversation, creating a rich and resonant experience that invites reflection, curiosity and re-interpretation.
