Hiroshi Kobayashi presents his latest exploration of abstraction through the lens of psychoanalysis. Inspired by Freud’s notion of Das es—the unconscious force that precedes reason—the artist offers a visual approach to the irrational, as if each work skirts the edges of what cannot be spoken.
Through his personal method, which he calls “patagraphy,” Kobayashi merges algorithmic precision with the unpredictability of oil paint. In this intersection between control and spontaneity, forms blur and reemerge as echoes of primal impulses—fragments of desire that elude conscious articulation.
Each painting seems to rise from an inner murmur, a silent insistence that takes shape on the canvas. Beyond the rational or narrative, these works invite viewers into the ambiguous space between impulse and representation, where painted matter becomes a form of thought—unspoken, yet deeply felt.
