Meetings are often sources of joy and the art fairs are opportunities to discovery.

This was the case for Katsunobu Yaguchi, whom we discovered at PARIS PHOTO 2017, and his series of three hundred photos remarkable and remarked, of one of his performances, then for Andrea Éva Győry at ART BRUSSELS 2018 and her colored pencils drawings, vivid and cruel at the same time, that shocked me.

It’s in Bruxelles once again that I had the chance to meet Stephan Goldrajch, whose work speaks at first about the human condition, the exchanges between people, the exchanges between people and cultures, in other words the essence and the meaning of life. Regarding the work of Jonathan Rosić, I’m following him since 2014, always in Bruxelles, when he received the SABAM Price. Highly inspired by Ingmar Bergman, his meticulous, controlled, subtle line suggests the disappearance, the absence, the time fading, the loss.

Why abandon for a while photography for drawings?

Asking this question is to forget our 2014 YELLOW exhibition where we presented drawings of Sol Lewitt, Christo, Marcel Duchamp, André Breton, Arshile Gorky. Same for Art Brussels 2019, with a booth almost uniquely devoted to drawings of Lucio Fontana, Francis Picabia, Christo already alongside Stephan Goldrajch and Jonathan Rosić.

Marcel Duchamp wrote « I would like to see photography make people despise painting until something else will make photography unbearable ».

We take great pride in presenting four young drawing talents, very different, but first and foremost inspired and passionate.

Stephan Goldrajch will be present with a large watercolor very colorful, full of humor, where the characters appear to come from a fantasy world filled with dreams and animated by magic rituals that make us think to the North carnivals, to African rituals and stunningly to the most extraordinary James Ensor’s works.

Andrea Éva Győry focuses her interest on the human body, a damaged body, an outraged body, but a body always vibrant and funny despite the hardships. She always tries to overcome her anxieties and fears. With a vivid and colorful stroke Andrea Éva stages the bodies of the tormented woman, a stroke that recalls Matta’s works of the 1950s.

Jonathan Rosić presents two drawings: two pillows crushed by two heads or maybe one in two different moments? But we don’t know anything about the Jonathan Rosić’s technique to attain this formal perfection. Because Jonathan Rosić collects forms like George Perec collected words, and maybe like him, he’s always looking for the missing piece.

Finally Katsunobu Yaguchi, more famous for his performances than for his drawings, has created during the last ten years a corpus that always evokes the evanescence and ephemeral showing the beauty that is tied to the passage of time. The drawings full of emotions that we show, were realized in 2015 and testify in an abstract way his desire to examine the experiences he did throughout the demolition and the transformation of «Café Washingtown», a traditional Japanese house which he deconstructed to find inspiration.
