Onishi Gallery is proud to present EMPIRE by a Long Island City-based, urban landscape and skyline photographer, Jonathan Colton. The exhibition will highlight and showcase his documentation of the glowing cityscape that captures unique distinct characters and values of the city. Jonathan was born in New York City in 1968, raised in Rockland Country, and moved out of Manhattan to Long Island City, where he re-discovered his inspiration and love for the Manhattan skyline. It did not take long for him to pursue his passion as a self-taught photographer.

Inspired by Kawase Hasui, a Japanese woodblock print artist, Ansel Adams and Alfred Stieglitz, Jonathan strives to capture the beauties of everyday life, scenes that many of us are too busy to take a second to appreciate.

He has been successfully capturing the mesmerizing skyline of New York City, an image that is both classic yet forever evolving using vintage, 30+ year old lenses. He hopes the audience will be able to share his sense of joy and wonder as he gazes upon the Manhattan Skyline every evening from his residence.
