In the autumn of 2018, MDD will organize an exhibition with Charline von Heyl (born 1960) that will occupy the full scale of the museum. Since the 1980s von Heyl is known for her innovative, radical approach to abstract painting.

Rather than abstracting the reality that surrounds us, the core of her practice stems from the images that arise during improvisation on the canvas. Her work is mainly driven by intuition - a colour, a movement, or a state of mind gives rise to powerful compositions that allow an endless number of interpretations.

Contemplation and imagination are the key to her work: “A lot of people in the art world are actually unlearning to see. What I would like my paintings to do is to break that barrier, to impose themselves and insist on being seen despite that fear” (Charline von Heyl).
