Brian Gross Fine Art is pleased to announce the opening of Streetlights, an exhibition of recent paintings by Marco Casentini, on Saturday, September 9, 2017, from 4–6pm. In this exhibition, Casentini will debut a series of paintings on colored metal in his signature style of overlapping planes of vibrant, contrasting colors. Casentini will also present new works comprised of densely layered geometric forms on plexiglass.

Casentini’s newest body of work continues his signature exploration of materials. These include acrylic paintings on plexiglass, paintings on canvas with applied plexiglass elements, and paintings on colored metal with aluminum supports. His use of metal as a substrate adds reflectivity and increases the interplay of light, heightening the viewer’s perception of surface and texture. In other paintings, Casentini explores dense compositional structures painted directly onto plexiglass. Using a myriad of overlapping squares and rectangles, Casentini creates elaborate compositions full of color vibrancy, visual rhythm, and movement. Inspired by urban landscapes, Caseninti’s work draws inspiration from the structural environments of urban centers. Experimenting with relational shapes and formations, Casentini combines opaque, translucent, and reflective blocks of color to create distinct compositions that echo the energy and light of the cities where he lives.

Born in La Spezia, Italy in 1961, Casentini studied painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Carrara, Italy. His work has been featured in over 150 solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands, and Australia. This is his seventh solo exhibition with Brian Gross Fine Art, having first exhibited in 1999 as an emerging talent. He currently lives and works in Milan, Italy and Hermosa Beach, California.
