Tracey Morgan Gallery is pleased to present Mental notes, an exhibition of prints and works on paper by Margaret Curtis. A reception for the artist will be held Thursday, October 15th, 6-8 pm. This is Curtis’ third exhibition with the gallery.

The works included in this exhibition span over a decade and focus on themes of climate change, societal decay, and apocalyptic dread. With distinct wit and craftsmanship, Curtis addresses these universal threats from a deeply personal perspective.

The work, Spot fire and Flash flood, is informed by the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon wildfire of 2022, which significantly altered the landscape near her second home of Las Vegas, New Mexico. Additionally, three works from her series Burning bridges addresses related themes of destruction by fire and flood following the impact of Hurricane Helene on Western North Carolina.

Also included are a series of monoprints entitled Earth ear, in these images, Curtis invites us to consider whether an earth-based intelligence or consciousness exists. Rounding out the exhibition are several works from her Auriferous, Emotional cartographies and Weapons of war series, which explore journalistic sensationalism, political division and our Nation’s culture of violence. Lastly, several of Curtis’ sketchbooks will be on display.
