Spanning five decades, this exhibition highlights the enduring relevance of the figurative practice of Montreal-based artist Marion Wagschal.

Born in Trinidad and Tobago in 1943 to Holocaust survivors, Wagschal moved to Canada at the age of nine. Her life and work have been shaped by her transnational identity and the formative experience of observing the world from the margins. Alive with multiple intersecting chronologies and emotional registers, her paintings bear witness to shifting social environments, complex interpersonal dynamics and the unsettled rhythms of her inner life.

Drawing on art history, family narratives and intimate relationships, her work moves fluidly between the personal and the collective, revealing fear, desire, vulnerability and resilience as fundamental aspects of the human condition.
