SLAG&RX is pleased to present The rest is memory, a group exhibition bringing together works by Tamara Kostianovsky, Edyta Hul, Dan Voinea, Dumitru Gorzo, Gail M. Boykewich, Christopher Yockey, Kelly Elkowitz, Tirtzah Bassel, Paul Wesenberg, Naomi Safran-Hon, and Chaz Guest. Through painting, sculpture, and mixed-media installations, the exhibition explores memory as a living force that shapes identity, perception, and the traces left behind by personal and collective experience.
Rather than treating memory as a fixed archive, the artists approach it as a fluid and evolving process, where fragments of history, emotion, and materiality intersect. Their works examine the ways recollection transforms over time, giving visual form to themes of absence, resilience, displacement, and renewal through richly layered surfaces, expressive gestures, and symbolic imagery. Each practice offers a distinct perspective while contributing to a broader conversation about what remains after moments, places, and experiences have passed.
Together, the works in The rest is memory invite viewers to reflect on the persistence of memory within both individual lives and shared histories. By bringing together diverse artistic voices and approaches, the exhibition reveals how contemporary art can transform remembrance into a dynamic visual language, encouraging audiences to consider the enduring relationship between memory, material, and the passage of time.
