David Klein Gallery is pleased to present Verano, a group exhibition featuring paintings by Sylvain Malfroy- Camine, Benjamin Pritchard, Scott Reeder, Leif Ritchey, Emanuel Torres, and sculpture by Del Harrow and Marie Herwald Hermann.

From the large-scale work of Benjamin Pritchard, Scott Reeder and Leif Ritchey to the intimate size paintings by Emanuel Torres and Malfroy-Camine, these artists share a non-objective approach to the exploration of color, form and expression. The common elements of experience, improvisation, light, humor, building and excavation are present in the work. Del Harrow and Marie Herwald Hermann share similar concerns, taking the exploration into three dimensions.

Marie Herwald Hermann lives and works in Chicago and Copenhagen. She is currently an Associate Professor at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Hermann received her MFA from the Royal College of Art in London in 2009. Hermann has participated in numerous group exhibitions in the US, Denmark, Italy, China, Sweden, and Germany. Her work is in multiple collections including Musée des Arts Décoratifs, France; The Art Institute of Chicago; The Danish Art Foundation, Denmark; The Denver Art Museum, CO; the Museum of Art and Design, New York. Cranbrook Art Museum, MI; and The Rothschild Collection, Waddesdon Manor, UK.

Del Harrow lives and works in Fort Collins, CO. He is a Professor at Colorado State University where he teaches Sculpture, Digital Fabrication, and Ceramics. His work in Sculpture and Ceramics integrate traditional manual and skill based forming processes with digital fabrication technology and is held in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Art Houston, The Arizona State University Art Museum, and the US State Department Art Nuevo Laredo Embassy.

Sylvain Malfroy-Camine, a first-generation American, was raised by French parents who emigrated to the Boston area in the early 1980s. He started playing the piano at the age of six and turned to painting in his late teens, developing a studio practice that continues to draw from music, as well as nature and literature. Malfroy- Camine’s childhood summers spent visiting family in France left him with the impressions of the light and landscapes of that country, which remain with him to this day, He received his BA in Art at the University of Massachusetts, Boston and an MFA in Painting at Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, MI. He currently lives and works in Boston, MA.

Benjamin Pritchard's work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally in New York, Los Angeles, Detroit and London as well as in Nagano, Japan and Koh Phangon, Thailand. Pritchard holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from the Royal Academy of Arts, London. He attended the New York Studio School from 1994-1996. Awards include the Hohenberg travel award and a Joan Mitchell foundation award for residency at the Atlantic Center for the Arts. Ben Pritchard lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.

Scott Reeder is a multidisciplinary artist based in Chicago and Detroit. He has exhibited widely in the US and abroad including Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, IL; John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygan, WI; Gavin Brown's Enterprise, New York, NY; Canada Gallery, New York, NY; Luce Gallery, Torino, Italy; Daniel Reich Gallery, New York, NY. Reeder received his MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and his BFA from the University of Iowa. His work is in numerous museum collections, including the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; and the Walker Art Center. He is an Associate Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Leif Ritchey is an American contemporary artist whose practice spans across the disciplines of art, music and fashion. He is in that generation of artists whose practice is defined by its commitment to a multi-disciplinary approach. His musical interests lend a poetic quality to his paintings where concepts and notions interact to fall into a kind of interactive play. Ritchey’s work has been exhibited in New York, NY; Los Angeles, CA; Detroit, MI; Torino, Italy; Copenhagen, Denmark; Luxembourg and Singapore. A native of Ann Arbor, MI, Ritchey maintains a studio in Detroit.

Emanuel Torres is a Puerto Rican painter whose practice engages with mythology, history, and the socio- political realities of the Caribbean. Torres’ explorations of light and darkness resonate with the urgent contemporary questions of survival, identity, and cultural inheritance. Torres holds a BA from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras and continued his studies at the University of Puerto Rico, Cayey. His work has been featured in multiple solo and group exhibitions in Puerto Rico, Europe, Japan, and the United States. He lives and works in Puerto Rico.
