Serene landscapes is a solo exhibition of paintings by Andrzej Skorut, a Polish-born artist who has made the American West his home and his subject since 1987.

His landscapes begin in observation, gathered across the open country of Utah and the West: fields and tree lines, clear rivers and alpine lakes, mountains in every season. From there they arrive somewhere quieter and less literal, places that feel familiar even to viewers who have never stood in them.

Skorut builds his paintings in layers of oil, glazing, scraping, and dragging the paint so that earlier passages show through the finished surface. From across the room the work reads as a calm, open landscape. Up close, the surface takes over, dense with marks and buried color. "My paintings are quiet when you look at them," the artist says, "but there's more going on. I try to hide energy beneath the peacefulness."
