As part of the Mai de la Photo festival in Marrakech, Comptoir des Mines Galerie presents an exhibition bringing together Latifa Toujani and Khadija Jayi. Through their photographs, the two artists establish a sensitive intergenerational dialogue, shaped by distinct female perspectives on Moroccan society. These two generations of Moroccan women meet through the medium of photography. Latifa Toujani and Khadija Jayi reveal intimate and powerful visual narratives in which personal history engages with the social realities of contemporary Morocco.
Each artist develops a highly personal visual language, informed by her lived experience, surroundings, and relationship with the intimate. Their works explore fragments of reality where memory, identity, and social experience intertwine. While their approaches differ in perspective and generation, they share the same ambition: to bear witness, to question, and to bring visibility to stories that often remain unseen.
The exhibition highlights the power of photography as a space for both personal and collective storytelling, where the voices of two artists respond to one another in order to reveal deeply human realities. Through their photographic practices, Latifa Toujani and Khadija Jayi explore how individual experiences become traces of collective memory. The dialogue between these two generations of artists sheds light on the narratives, inheritances, and social realities that are passed down over time. Their works thus contribute to a thoughtful reflection on memory and the forms of transmission between women and across generations.
