The signature survey of artists living and working in the New York City returns for its sixth edition this spring, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of MoMA PS1. Titled Greater New York 2026, the exhibition unfolds across all levels of the institution’s historic school building, bringing together more than 50 multidisciplinary artists in the formative stages of their careers. As in previous editions, the show serves as a vital platform for emerging voices, offering a snapshot of the city’s evolving artistic landscape.
This highly anticipated iteration features a dynamic range of site-specific commissions, newly produced works, and performances, alongside significant recent pieces that engage with some of today’s most pressing cultural concerns. Organized for the first time by the full curatorial team of MoMA PS1, the exhibition foregrounds the conditions shaping everyday life in the city, from heightened surveillance and economic precarity to the impact of rapidly shifting technologies. At the same time, it highlights the inventive strategies artists employ to navigate, resist, and reimagine these realities.
Greater New York 2026 captures both a sense of optimism and underlying anxiety, reflecting the complex emotional landscape of contemporary urban life. Through close attention to the layered, lived textures of New York City, the participating artists offer nuanced perspectives on community, identity, and transformation. The exhibition ultimately becomes a space where urgency and possibility coexist, revealing how artistic practices continue to respond to—and reshape—the rhythms of the city.
