Mizuma Gallery is proud to present Liminal relic, solo exhibition by Kemalezedine, curated by Asmudjo J. Irianto, opening on 17 January 2026. The exhibition explores the evolving space between tradition and modernity in contemporary Balinese art.
Drawing from Balinese cultural objects such as Kamasan paintings, ceremonial ornaments, and symbolic motifs, the artist reflects on how these traditions continue to exist— no longer in their original form, yet not fully lost. Kemalezedine repositions these relics not simply as remnants of the past, but as living forms open to reinterpretation. His works are fragmented and layered, echoing the way traditions are constantly negotiated and reshaped in the present.
Liminal relic questions how cultural symbols function today, especially when Balinese people live between communal ritual practices and individual modern lives. Through this exhibition, Kemalezedine reimagines Balinese painting as a critical, contemporary visual language.
