Mashrabia Gallery of Contemporary Art is pleased to present Magnificent creatures, a solo exhibition by Egyptian artist Marwan El Gamal, on view from 11/1/2026 to 12/2/2026 at Mashrabia Gallery in Cairo.

Magnificent creatures explores the presence of vast, indifferent beings that disrupt human perceptions of reality. Rendered through a refined oil-on-canvas technique, these figures embody both aspiration and fear, existing beyond human approval or acknowledgment. Their beauty is undeniable, yet their detachment evokes a quiet unease, inviting viewers to confront their own sense of scale, vulnerability, and significance.

The works are developed through a gradual, layered painting process, allowing forms to emerge, dissolve, and reassert themselves. This method mirrors the exhibition’s conceptual core: a reality that is unstable, cosmic, and resistant to fixed interpretation. Rather than offering narrative clarity, the paintings encounter moments of fascination, intimidation, and contemplation.

Marwan El Gamal is an Egyptian contemporary artist. His interdisciplinary practice spans painting, animation, and text with an interest in depicting the loss of the familiar through imagined storytelling and alternate remembrance. Interested in the driving of culture and how images, stories, and traditions instill identity, he seeks to explore coherent narratives of the identity of the self and society by disrupting these anchor points of recognition as he draws from history, mythology, pop culture, archetypes, and personal memory.

Speaking about the exhibition, Mashrabia Gallery notes: “El Gamal’s paintings invite viewers into a space where awe and discomfort coexist, reminding us of realities that exist far beyond human centrality.”
