Cities have always fascinated me during my travels. People who live together in a confined space but also remain lonely. Those feelings I try to capture in my paintings.

The painter Martin Köster is one of the up-and-comers in the art scene. His pictures show a variety of wet streets; lights and reflections dance on buildings and cars. The viewer is pulled into the vanishing point of the pictures. By contrasting dark buildings and glaring lights, Köster creates a captivating scene.

Through the darkness of the works shines colors of intense blue, burning orange and deep red, making the cities come to life. In the urban environments people disappear into the horizon, walking alone but still intertwined with their sorroundings. Köster is very engaged with symmetry, which he found in the motive of cityscapes: buildings that tower and either side of the street. Its not a stringent symmetry, but blurred and soft, and if you look closely, you will see it.

Kösters works are exhibitioned all over the world. New York, London, Hamburg and Singapore are just a few of the numerous venues – cities his works also depict. Martin Köster was born in Germany in 1988, where he also studied and live today. He paints with oil on wood.
