Federico Lynch Ferraris

Federico is a high school student in the class of 2027 at Trinity School in New York City and a former student of Stanford OHS. He loves math, science, swimming, drawing, reading, writing, history, geography, and business. He is fluent in Italian and is advanced in Spanish.

He first published his writing in fourth grade, with regular contributions to Macaroni Kid from 2017 to 2020. The magazine, which has a strong online presence, is published regionally and nationally in 4,000 communities across North America. He also published several short stories in Stone Soup, followed by "The Chrysalis," the literary journal of Stanford OHS. In 2021, he began his collaboration with Meer. As a contributing writer, he has authored nine published articles for Meer, including one on ghost forests that incorporated Maya Lin's 2021 Ghost Forest installation at Madison Square Park in New York City, as well as several social justice articles.

With a strong interest in geography and world affairs, he has traveled extensively, visiting countries such as Northern Italy (Milan, Venice, Verona, and Messina), Portugal (Lisbon), the United Kingdom (London, Glasgow, Edinburgh), Switzerland (St. Moritz), Croatia (Pula, Dubrovnik), the Netherlands (Amsterdam and Rotterdam), Germany (Frankfurt and Cologne), Cuba (Havana), Iceland (Reykjavik), Morocco (Marrakech and Casablanca), Mexico (Cabo San Lucas), Costa Rica (San Jose), the UAE (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah), Qatar (Doha), Oman (Muscat), Japan (Tokyo), and the Philippines (Manila, Cebu, El Nido). Most recently, a trip to South Africa (Cape Town and Johannesburg) and Namibia (Windhoek and Swakopmund) placed Federico amidst some of the most spectacular sky views, fueling his interest in astronomy. Guided tours of the breathtaking Milky Way made remote astronomical objects tangible and surreal. The appeal of traveling often comes from the tangible experiences he gains in areas such as astronomy, global warming, and emerging market economies. Besides physically visiting these countries, his virtual travels and extensive global knowledge stimulate his curiosity and provide research material for his writing.

Federico is deeply interested in the intersection between social justice and entrepreneurship. He aims to improve awareness of current events, with a particular interest in elevating underrepresented voices and increasing visibility on frequently overlooked issues. Beyond journalism, he is equally passionate about entrepreneurship as a vehicle for meaningful change. Two years ago, he competed in an entrepreneurship competition, at the end of which he pitched a business idea to judges at Google. The experience blossomed into a passion for entrepreneurship that provided inspiration for his most recent article. He is also interested in the ability of writing and art to increase visibility on current and global events. He is exploring this idea through a business he is looking to start up in the near future.

In his free time, he enjoys drawing and creative writing in the form of poems and short stories. Additionally, he spends much of his free time learning about geopolitics and modern economies. He has a particular interest in how past events manifest in present issues and how history, in general, can act as an anchor for understanding the present. These interests have shaped his curiosity in finance, especially on a global scale.

Along with continuing to write about social justice, science, finance, and politics, he is working on his first novel. In addition to his writing, he has a lifelong interest in astrophysics, which he has pursued at Johns Hopkins as a CTY scholar. He is also a Prep for Prep scholar, a highly selective academic and leadership development program in New York.

He lives in New York City with his parents, brother, and the family's four-year-old Maltese, Daisy — a member of the family from birth!
