I have a strong desire to inspire and empower others by fusing psychology and creativity. I started my career at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Philosophy and Psychology in 2022 with a second-class lower division in English. I have a deep understanding of human behaviour thanks to this academic background, which I always try to incorporate into creative endeavours.
As an internal student at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, I also earned a Diploma in English, which improved my communication skills and enabled me to present ideas not only in academic settings but also in innovative and useful ways. It also strengthened my ability to explain psychological concepts to a variety of audiences in both Sinhala and English, which made it easier for me to reach a wider audience with my work.
Making psychological information interesting and approachable for a range of people is one of my main goals. I have produced and disseminated thought-provoking content on Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok, among other platforms. Using imaginative techniques like short plays and dances, I frequently concentrate on addressing important subjects like emotional control, cognitive biases, and empathy. By fusing psychology and art, these performances aim to engage audiences more deeply and encourage healing and awareness.
Initiatives to combat bullying and raise awareness of mental health issues are also causes close to my heart. I am motivated to take action because I have eleven years of firsthand experience with the effects of school bullying. I want to empower people and spread awareness of the long-term impacts of bullying through dance, storytelling, and psychological insights. By providing them with the psychological resources necessary to cope with such trauma, I hope to assist others in overcoming their obstacles. I am convinced that many future mental health issues can be avoided by addressing bullying at an early age.
I write about topics that combine psychology and actual experiences. Recently, I wrote a short novella in Sinhala with a strong psychological message for 11-year-olds. In order to help young people understand their feelings and the need of emotional control, the story is meant to be relatable. My goal is to translate this work into English so that a wider audience can access it. I may express my thoughts by writing for publications in the hopes of encouraging introspection and constructive life change in others.
Along with my academic and artistic endeavours, I intend to teach online Edexcel (A/L) Psychology lessons at Guru Niwasa Institute. My goal is to establish a supportive, stress-free learning atmosphere where students can flourish and broaden their psychological knowledge. I think that learning requires a supportive environment, thus I want to create a space where students are inspired to interact with the content, ask questions, and get passionate about psychology. In order to help students thrive academically and apply what they learn to real-life situations, I want to cultivate a profound appreciation for the subject.
Above all, I think that understanding and empathy are powerful. This idea is reflected in my work on LinkedIn, where I produce films promoting empathy in both Sinhala and English. The goal of these videos is to present psychological concepts in an engaging, approachable, and imaginative manner. I want to help people understand and use empathy in their daily lives since I think it’s one of the most crucial human connection skills.
Making a difference is my ultimate goal in whatever I do. Through my writing, teaching, dance, and volunteer work, I hope to encourage others to reflect on themselves, gain a better understanding of who they are, and make the world a more compassionate place. I can share my ideas with a larger audience working with like-minded people to promote significant change. I have a strong desire to break down barriers and make sure that as many people as possible may benefit from the insights that psychology can provide by incorporating psychology into regular interactions.
I appreciate you taking the time to read about my experience. I can’t wait to keep looking for new ways to integrate psychology, creativity, and education in order to positively impact people’s lives in the long run.
