Courtney Carr was born in Upstate, New York. From a young age, she has had a passion for story telling whether it be on paper or on a stage. Growing up, she always had the knack for performing and telling stories that could transport others to a different world or serve as a distraction for just a moment from their everyday lives. When it came time to decide on a career path, it was clear that journalism and more specifically broadcast journalism was the right choice as it involves a combination of everything she loves and has endless opportunities for telling the stories she so loves to tell.
She graduated from Texas Christian University (TCU) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism. While at TCU, she was a student reporter for two student run shows: TCU News Now and The Leap. She also was the assistant for Ad Lab assisting with various tasks within the newsroom. Courtney was also a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and a member of TCU’s women's choir Cantiamo. She served as co-chair of event operations for Dance Marathon, which is an organization that raises money for the Children's Miracle Network. Off campus, Courtney worked at Texas Motor Speedway as a volunteer in the tracks media center for both Nascar and Indy Car. She has also worked in the media center at Watkins Glen.
Prior to attending TCU, Courtney got her Associates Degree in Mass Communications at the SUNY Broome Community College. During her time at SUNY Broome she participated in Communications Club and Toast Masters Speaker of The House, in which she placed first in the table topics category in 2019. Courtney has completed three internships throughout her academic career within various communications fields. The internships include The Binghamton Devils (AHL Game Operations Intern), Binghamton University (Athletics Videography Intern), and Magic 1017 and 1025 The Vault (On Air Radio Intern).
After graduation, she continued to volunteer in the media center for NASCAR. NASCAR and the world of motorsports has always been a center of Courtney’s life as she grew up in a family of drag racers and would spend many weekends at the local speedway track as a kid. When working in the media center at Texas Motor Speedway and Watkins Glen she works as a part of the communications department. She is given many responsibilities including prep work and helping conduct press conferences that occur pre and post race, assisting authorized personnel and drivers around the center and ensuring the necessary materials are at Victory Lane.
In a more full time capacity, Courtney has worked as the Social Media Specialist for a local dealership in her area that has allowed her to put her various skills together to create engaging and creative content in the medium of social media. Through this role she has been able to build upon her love for creative storytelling.
She enjoys all things within the field of entertainment and has focused the majority of her work around this industry from reporting on various events and concerts to many types of films and television projects. Something that is unique about Courtney is her passion for music and more specifically heavy metal and film and television, which she studied in college. This love of music and genre of metal comes from her father who is a big reason for who she is today. Courtney’s bond with her dad is one that inspires lots of what she does and is currently working on a podcast with her father that is centered around music. To further her knowledge of and ability to work in the entertainment industry, she is currently a student at John Casablacas.
Something that sets Courtney apart when it comes to the world of journalism and story telling is how she prefers to focus on the individual involved in a story more than the overall event taking place. She finds the beauty in the small details and is able to find ways to make what might seem small or of less significance the center of the story showing that everyone and everything has a story to tell. One example of this would be a package that she had worked on in college where she had to report on the NASCAR Cup Series at TMS and she decided to not focus on the race at all but the people that attend the race and the people that make the sport what it is, which is the fans.
Courtney is also fascinated by the world of art, which can be seen as a tie to her love of music and a specific genre. Growing up she always admired the art work that accompanied an album and the power behind it and how it helps push the story behind the music forward.
In her free time, Courtney enjoys working out and spending time outdoors. It is also common to find her listening to an album in its entirety or watching one of her favorite shows or viewing something new. Other hobbies include her passion for singing as she comes from a performance background or rehearsing various monologues. The most important thing to Courtney is her family and nine times out of ten she is always around them. Her family comes from many walks of life and often times inspire many of her projects. Courtney hopes to grow her passion and skills and continue to tell stories with her own creative flare.
