Reading and writing have always been a crucial part of my life, and as I grew and learned, they became a love for journalism and creative writing, which I am now pursuing. Throughout my life, creativity has been constantly present —I was lucky enough to grow up in a home filled with dance, music, books, and art, which served as a massive source of comfort. Coming from a mixed but fully Mediterranean cultural background and having grown up in the Middle East, my upbringing has had a significant influence on the art that I create.
I hold a BA in English and Comparative Literature, in which my dissertation focus was the unjustified separation of women’s literature within the South Korean literary canon, and an MA in Fashion Journalism, in which my master’s project was a journal focusing on how neurodivergent conditions influence the artistic process and flow, both within and outside of the fashion industry. Both of these topics are ones I’m deeply passionate about and would love to expand on in time, in whatever way I’m able to, and I do hope to pursue a doctorate that allows me to do so at some point in the future. Throughout researching both of my chosen dissertation topics, I have also garnered a deep interest in various social causes and movements, which is something I have come to find extremely important to my development as I’ve grown.
Alongside writing, I’ve taken on various jobs over the last couple of years, including waitressing, editing, administration, copywriting, and office management. I have been writing creatively since my teenage years, and have been more focused on pursuing journalistic writing for about two years now. While I enjoy fashion journalism (which has been my main focus since finishing my master’s), I’m looking forward to branching out into other fields that interest me, such as culture, politics, and entertainment, specifically film. I’ve had several of my short stories and poems published under a pen name, and I’m now looking for more professional writing opportunities, with hopes of starting and running my own digital publication once I make my next move.
Aside from my creative and journalistic endeavours, I love staying active by going to the gym, dancing, rollerskating and taking long, aimless walks. I’m also a polyglot and am always happy to learn and explore new languages I can use whenever I’m able to take time to travel. I spend too much time on Letterboxd, and have a newfound love for early 20th century cinema, especially if it features Rosalind Russell, Katharine Hepburn or Ginger Rogers, although I’m open to watching pretty much anything, especially if it’s completely new to me.
Among my friends, I’m well-known for picking up and moving around on a regular basis—while Europe is currently my base, in 2025 I hope to relocate back to the Gulf, where I hope to settle down for a bit longer and pursue higher education once again. I’m also a lover of design and sewing, cooking and baking, and I am always more than open to trying out new hobbies and learning new things, especially if they keep me creative and active.
By writing for Meer, I hope to improve my writing and expand the scope of the topics I choose to write about. As a writer and journalist, I look up to publications such as Dazed and Polyester, and have hopes of being featured by them someday. I also hope to gain more confidence as a journalist and do further work on developing my journalistic writing style while addressing the things that matter to me.
