Glen T. Martin

Glen T. Martin, Ph.D., is Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at Radford University in Virginia, USA. His BA degree is from the University of Buffalo, cum laude, invited into Phi Beta Kappa. His MA from Hunter College of the City University of New York, and his Ph.D. from the Graduate Center of CUNY, with distinction in the history of philosophy. Today, he is Executive Director of the Earth Constitution Institute (ECI) and President of the World Constitution and Parliament Association (WCPA), cooperating worldwide organizations that sponsor the Constitution for the Federation of Earth. He is also President of the Provisional World Parliament that has been operating since 1982 under Article 19 of the Constitution for the Federation of Earth and, as President, has presided over the last five sessions of the Parliament. He is currently leading the organization of the 16th session of the Provisional World Parliament to be held in 2025 in Pondicherry, India.

Martin declared himself a conscious objector to all war during the period when the USA was drafting young men for its Vietnam War. He refused all participation in that or any other wars. For many years, he has traveled and lectured worldwide on behalf of the Earth Constitution and the philosophical foundations of emerging world law, as well as on behalf of WCPA projects such as sessions of the Provisional World Parliament and the development of a World Court system. He has received many international peace awards, including the GUSI International Peace Prize in the Philippines in 2013 and has been invited to speak about the Earth Constitution at prestigious locations such as the Palacia Justicia of the Supreme Court of Lima, Peru. For many years he was also President of International Philosophers for Peace (IPPNO) and remains President of Educators for Peace and Social Justice, based in India. He founded the Peace Studies Program at Radford University in 1992 and was Chair of this program until his retirement as Professor Emeritus in 2021. He has led in the organization of several “Building a New World” peace conferences in the USA as well as four WCPA International World Transformation Conferences in India.

Dr. Martin is author or editor of thirteen books and hundreds of articles on global issues, human spirituality, and planetary solutions. Among his special areas of interest and expertise are the philosophy of religion, contemporary cosmology, philosophy of law, and political philosophy. His most recent books include One World Renaissance: Holistic Planetary Transformation through a Global Social Contract (2016), and Global Democracy and Human Self-Transcendence: The Power of the Future for Planetary Transformation (2018), and well as a book of poetry co-authored with Elaine F. Webster called Invocations of the Heart, which appeared in 2022.

His recent book about the climate crisis is called Design for a Living Planet: The Earth Constitution Solution (2021). This book was endorsed by the famous founder of the Club of Rome, Dr. Ervin Laszlo, who declared: “The achievement of the Earth Constitution Solution would mark a milestone in humankind’s evolution into a true planetary species.” His forthcoming book is titled Human Dignity and World Order: Holistic Foundations of Global Democracy, which is due out 15 April 2023. This book shows in detail the ways in which the present world system violates human dignity and shows why human beings do not have a credible future unless we establish a world system directly upon human dignity. It includes a Foreword written by Ervin Laszlo. A world system based on human dignity is exactly what is accomplished by the Earth Constitution.
