This exhibition approaches language not as a fixed code, but as something carried and weathered, contested in public, whispered in private and continually made and unmade through use. With clarity and force, some of the artworks included in this exhibition protest, document or declare.

Others are harder to pin down. They stall, loop, or misfire, communicating obliquely through translation, shorthand, or forensic assemblage. Across these modes, language is treated less as a transparent vehicle and more as a charged and unstable terrain, alive with relation, rupture, and repair.

In computing, detokenisation refers to the act of reassembling fragments into something recognisable. Of resolving ambiguity. But here, meaning flickers. The works leave room for confusion, for different readings, for disagreement. Legibility is withheld or broken apart. Fluency is resisted. What remains are spaces where misreading becomes method, and interpretation is a form of relation rather than resolution. In a world where machines are learning to generate endless fluent text, these works reassert the value of delay, uncertainty, and the messy, co-authored human labour of meaning-making.
