Liverpool Biennial returns to Walker Art Gallery for its 13th edition entitled Bedrock. This exhibition transforms Walker Art Gallery into a space where contemporary art engages with the city's foundations—both geological and social. Drawing inspiration from Liverpool's distinctive sandstone architecture and complex history of empire, the exhibition features works that explore personal and colonial legacies within the ornate building, itself founded on merchant wealth.

The Liverpool Biennial’s exhibition at Walker Art Gallery showcases densely material works by an international roster of artists including Antonio Jose Guzman & Iva Jankovic's indigo textile installation Concrete roots, Leasho Johnson's pigment-rich paintings examining Black queer identity, and Jennifer Tee's delicate ‘Tampan Tulips’ collages. Other highlights include Karen Tam's cast resin Dream Stones, Katarzyna Perlak's large-scale textile work, Cevdet Erek's football stadium-inspired pieces, Isabel Nolan's fictional landscapes, and Petros Moris's mosaic in the Sculpture Gallery. These diverse works collectively investigate themes of migration, cultural memory, and the production of fantasy while engaging in dialogue with the gallery's historic collection.

Outside the gallery, in the grounds of The Oratory at Liverpool Cathedral, a selection from Petros Moris’ Alone series of mosaic sculptures reference the artist past through imagery of an abandoned playground and his parent's own mosaic studio.
