Rei Naito’s Two Lives is the sixth in a series of installations commissioned for the Museum’s Lightfall.

Naito (b. 1961, Hiroshima), one of Japan’s foremost contemporary artists, represented Japan at the 1997 Venice Biennale. Her minimalist, poetic works are inspired by natural forces, such as light, wind and rain. In Two Lives, the natural light penetrating the Lightfall plays a role in the installation, allowing the delicate, almost invisible work to transform throughout the day.

The project was made possible thanks to the generosity of Jill and Jay Bernstein.
