Any artwork that is commissioned by a city for a public space is bound to face a tremendous amount of scrutiny, not only for the work that gets commissioned, but for the transparency and accountability of the process by which it was selected.

Out There surveys a number of recent public art competitions organized by the City of Hamilton in order to reveal the process by which they were juried, offered for public feedback, constructed, and installed; the exhibition will present images of winning competitions, but also designs from shortlisted artists, samples of public commentary, design maquettes and more.
