The Frederic Remington Art Museum opened its 2014 NYS Juried Art Exhibit on Saturday, October 4, 2014.
The 2014 NYS Juried Art Exhibit is open to New York State residents 18 years or older. Juror Janet Marie Yeates selected 25 works of art out of 90 submitted by 34 artists. The exhibition is on view in the museum’s Richard E. Winter Gallery & Torrey Family Gallery now through January 11, 2015.
Janet Marie Yeates, a native of New York City, was an art student at the High School of Music & Art and studied drawing, painting, printmaking, and calligraphy at The Cooper Union and Hunter College, earning a BFA. Following travel abroad, she moved upstate and now resides in the southern Adirondacks.
Janet had a decade-long career as Executive Director of a rural arts council, initiating the first three-county NYS Council on the Arts (NYSCA) regrant program and a long-running National Small Works Exhibition, while serving on NYSCA peer review panels for statewide grants. She is an artist member of Micropolis Cooperative Gallery and an active exhibitor in solo, juried, and group shows throughout the upstate region and southern Vermont. She participates in plein air festivals, Plein Air Magazine’s paint weeks, and New York Plein Air Painters retreats. Janet is also a freelance graphic designer specializing in book design and promotions for artists, musicians, and cultural organizations.
Many of the works are for sale. One third of the purchase price of each artwork benefits the Frederic Remington Art Museum and two thirds go to the artist. Purchased art remains in the exhibition. It will be available for pick-up on January 14. The cost of packing, shipping and insurance is the responsibility of the purchaser.
