Stephen Daiter Gallery is pleased to present Walking blues, an exhibition of photographs by Alex Webb.
Made over more than a decade in some forty cities across the United States, the photographs in Walking blues reflect Webb’s distinctive approach to the street. Layered compositions bring together color, light, gesture, movement, and chance, allowing several moments to unfold within a single frame.
Rather than offering conventional portraits of individual cities, Webb focuses on the shifting relationships that emerge in public life: strangers crossing paths, figures moving between light and shadow, reflections, storefronts, and fleeting gestures that briefly come into alignment. His photographs are both spontaneous and intricately constructed, rewarding close and repeated looking.
The title Walking blues reflects Webb’s interest in the rhythm and improvisational spirit of blues music. Across the exhibition, repetition, variation, and chance become visual elements, creating a vivid and complex view of contemporary American urban life.
