Paul Kaiser. Allegories of an Exile

Marcas Contemporary Art in Santa Ana presents "Paul Kaiser - Allegories of an Exile" with an opening reception on Saturday, October 4 at 7pm.

"Allegories of an Exile" New York artist Paul Kaiser took a self imposed exile to re-evaluate his sense of self and to finally confront long suppressed demons. His experience resulted in "Allegories of an Exile," a photographic documentation of his two year journey in the Southern California desert, weaving a creative narrative throughout it's beautifully diverse terrain. Kaiser is a veteran of the Army and Navy, most recently serving in Operation Enduring Freedom as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Diver. The steady hands that worked with bombs now create art in various mediums- drawings, paintings and photography.

Photographers and photo enthusiasts know that chocolate polaroid film is a rare and unique entity, and nearly impossible to work with. Possibly the rarest film Polaroid made, Chocolate film was produced on a limited run as a specialty product. Obtaining the film is a feat in itself, and even then, what exists in the world is predominately damaged. Overcoming the film's challenges and shortcomings are part of its appeal and Kaiser determined it offered an unparalleled canvas for artistic expression. As it's certain the photos from "Allegories of an Exile" can never be replicated, Kaiser put the work in book form and will be signing copies for the first time during his appearance at Marcas gallery on October 4.
