I have always been a writer of notes, and have always preferred the living mark on a page to the cursor on a screen. I’ve always loved the written note on paper; tactile evidence of a thought, a task, a day, a life. An intimate marker of time that is both tangible and ephemeral…The pages you see here are notes of writers and writings that have stayed with me, and they are juxtaposed with some of my own personal revelations. This work unfolded out of my own experience of this particular moment —a time of growth, transition, loss, and reforming. Quietly hopeful, these small notes speak to a larger awareness of the fleetingness of each moment. Together, they chart the possibilities of what is to come; they linger here for a while, to remind us of what has been and what still can be. Through this work, I pause, reflect, and push gently forward.

Gallery Naga presents Noted, a solo exhibition by multimedia artist Elisa H. Hamilton. Bringing together a new series of intimate works on paper, the exhibition reflects on the emotional and tactile resonance of handwritten notes, fragments of memory, and personal reflections. Through crayon, ink, watercolor, oil pastel, and layered mark-making, Hamilton transforms ordinary gestures of writing into contemplative visual compositions that explore time, transition, and human connection.

At the center of Noted is the artist’s enduring fascination with the handwritten page as both a physical object and a trace of lived experience. Drawing from passages of literature, found writings, and her own private reflections, Hamilton creates works that blur the boundaries between text, abstraction, and image. The compositions evoke fleeting thoughts, emotional residue, and moments of vulnerability, emphasizing the intimacy and impermanence embedded within everyday acts of notation. Rather than functioning as direct narratives, the works operate as fragments—partial records of thought that invite viewers into a quiet space of observation and contemplation.

Known for her socially engaged and community-centered practice, Hamilton consistently examines shared spaces, collective memory, and the emotional textures of ordinary life. In Noted, these concerns become distilled into smaller, deeply personal works that nevertheless speak to broader experiences of growth, loss, hope, and transformation. The exhibition ultimately positions the handwritten note as an artifact of presence and connection, celebrating the tactile and emotional dimensions of communication in an increasingly digital world.
