The Academy of Ceramics Gmunden (AoCG), of Gmundner Keramik and OÖ Landes-Kultur GmbH The project aims to foster exchange and mutual inspiration between one of Europe's oldest ceramic centers and contemporary artists. Artist-in-residence programs, along with accompanying exhibitions and discussion formats, promote the transfer of artistic and technical know-how.
The Gmunden Ceramics Manufactory opens its workshops to visiting artists, providing both the necessary infrastructure and expert guidance. In doing so, the AoCG continues the long tradition of combining craftsmanship and fine art – a lineage that stretches back to the Viennese ceramics produced in Gmunden and their characteristic Art Nouveau objects.
Artists AoCG 2025: Chen-Hsiang Kao, TW/JP Rosmarie Lukasser, AT Maryna Talutto, UA Helena Sekot, DE/AT Charlotte Wiesmann, DE/AT.
While Maryna Talutto finds artistic and mental solace in everyday "Small Little Things" in war-torn Kyiv, Helena Sekot explores sphagnum moss as the life-giving core of the bog – a space poised between mysticism, cultural heritage, and climate indicator. Rosmarie Lukasser's terracotta figures address the intersection between mobile devices and the human body in the digital age. Charlotte Wiesmann researched turtle shells in Taiwan as ritual oracles and early writing media, developing fragile plastrons formed from sculptural lines. Chen-Hsiang Kao brought Eastern symbols into dialogue with the West in Gmunden, creating performances that also draw attention to Taiwan's fragile political situation.
